The varied habitat in the sanctuary supports a number of species of terrestrial, aquatic and arboreal animals. The major tourist activities that can be undertaken in the wild life parks are wild life tours. Staying at jungle lodges, tree houses, fishing camps etc. are other facilities available there. Most of the Southern Indian wild animals and birds are found in Munnar and surroundings. These include the grizzled giant squirrel, champak squirrel, elephant,
somber deer, gaur etc
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary (60 km from Munnar,210 kms east of Cochin) is located in Devikulam
Taluk on the Tamilnadu border. The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the rain shadow region of the Western Ghats. The sanctuary is alsi haven for two highly endangered species-the grizzled giant squirrel and the star tortoise. Another attraction is Thoovanam falls on the river Chinnar.

Eravikulam National Park (15 km from Munnar, situated in the Devikulam Taluks of the Idukki District) The Nilgiri Tahr can be observed at close quarters here. This park is established to protect the Nilgiri Tahr (Nilgiri Ibex). The park is breathtakingly beautiful and is easily comparable to the best mountain ranges found anywhere in the world. The park is divided into 3 regions - the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. Visitors are allowed only to the tourism area which is in the
Rajamalai region. Trekking facilities are available here. Tourists are allowed to go on foot up to Anamudi. This is also palace for adventure tourism.
