Wildlife of Munnar !

Munnar is a picturesque scope of the lofty Western Ghats. Munnar first came into prominence as a favorite summer resort of the British government. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary (60 km from Munnar,210 kms east of Cochin) is located in Devikulam Taluk on the Tamilnadu border. The Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the rain shadow region of the Western Ghats. The sanctuary is alsi haven for two highly endangered species-the grizzled giant squirrel and the star tortoise. Another attraction is Thoovanam falls on the river Chinnar.

The park is divided into 3 regions - the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. Visitors are allowed only to the tourism area which is in the Rajamalai region.
